55+ And Active Adult Communities in the Charlotte NC Area
The terms “Active Adult Community” and “55+ Community” are often used interchangeably. Many articles have been written and videos created about active adult communities and 55 plus communities that seem to confuse people. The key is getting a clear understanding on the two types of 55+ communities, age-restricted and age-targeted:
55+/Active Adult Communities (Age-Restricted)
In an age-restricted community, at least 80 percent of the sold units must be occupied by at least one person 55 years of age or older. The other owners and/or residents must be over the age of 19 to live there. Children or anyone under 18 can visit up to 90 days per year. What are the Pros and Cons of Living in 55+ Communities?
55+/Active Adult Communities (Age-Targeted)
Age-targeted communities have no age restriction, but the communities will offer amenities that appeal to the active adult lifestyle such as lawn maintenance. Anyone can live in this type of community.
