HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!
This Father's Day, thousands of neckties will be given by loving children to beloved fathers.
But have you ever wondered how this style trend evolved? After all, the necktie is purely decorative. It doesn’t keep us warm or dry and does not add comfort. Yet men around the world love wearing them. Here's a quick history of the origin of the necktie to share with dad along with his gift this June 21.
Most sartorialists (people interested in the way clothes are tailored) agree that the roots of the necktie are found in the 17th century. During the 30-year war in France, King Louis XIII hired Croatian mercenaries who wore a piece of cloth around their neck to tie the top of their jackets together.
The cloth had a striking decorative effect that King Louis liked so much, he made it an accessory for Royal gatherings. To honor Croatian soldiers, he gave this piece of cloth the name “La Cravate” – the word for necktie in French to this day.
