People immediately think of Colorado when they hear Denver. But, yes, we have our own Denver in North Carolina. It is a small town located on the west side of Lake Norman in Lincoln County. Denver is a neighboring town west of Huntersville via Highway 73. It’s just about 12 minutes to get to Birkdale Village if you are coming from the intersection of Highway 73 and Highway 16. Denver NC has a population of 3,261 per US Census in 2021 and 5.93 sq. miles in size.
The west side of the lake, where Denver is located, has typically been quieter, with a “laid-back” and “easy-going” atmosphere. Denver is probably best known for the historic Rock Springs Camp Meeting, an annual religious gathering that has been continued for over 207 years and held in Denver since 1830.
With the construction of Highway 16 that makes an easier and faster commute to Charlotte, new business establishments opened on Highway 73 and Highway 16. Big stores such as Walmart, Lowe’s, restaurants, shops, fast food, supermarkets, pizza places, pet grooming salons, real estate companies popped up throughout the area.
